Financial donations

We use money donated to help refugee families buy things that are not covered by their refugee scheme and have an added expense, such as laptops, dictionaries, bicycles, textbooks, secondary school uniform etc.

We also buy items to provide ‘the basics’ for asylum seekers who arrive in the area. Often new arrivals will have only the clothes they are standing in.  We provide a pair of casual trousers/leggings, a couple of t-shirts, a jumper, coat, underwear, socks and a pair of trainers.  We try to provide this as soon as possible, within a week’s turnaround.  This costs around £60 per person, and we mostly receive families of between 4 and 8 people.

Our funds are also used to buy resources for our English classes, such as books and stationery, and items for social occasions with the families and our volunteers, such as craft activities and refreshments.

Much of what we do has limited overheads, as we work in people’s homes and in venues across the community that are offered to us for free.  Our volunteers can claim expenses for their travel but many of them walk to their volunteering as they live locally.  This means that we spend the majority of our income directly on things for our clients.

We are looking into other giving platforms such as JustGiving and TotalGiving, but for now, if you would like to make donation to support the work of the Horsham Refugee Support Group, you can send us a bank transfer:
